It's not bullshit. A surgeon's prime is ages 45-50, so I only have a couple good years left before I go downhill, if I make it that long. And I have medical issues and expired medicine that also complicates things. The odds are not in my favour. I'm not trying to be a bummer, I'm being a realist. Statistics and probability, dude. I'm currently trying to keep up with people half my age, but decline is inevitable.

I'm glad you're figuring it out, though. You have time for a whole second act. You're what, like 30?

It would be selfish of me to do anything different than what I'm doing now. People are always going to need rescuing or healing or whatever, so I can't just say no, you can die 'cause I'm not feeling it today.

That's young! And you won't be. You're smart. You're resilient. You're ambitious. I'm kind of a stupid idiot, in case you haven't noticed.

[...]

Sorry to get all existential on you.

I don't know. I don't really have hobbies. Never had time for 'em.

I'm 8 years older than you. My bones are crumbling to dust as we speak.

Sorry Okie dokie.

Blythe said maybe he could teach me some new skills?

Oh yeah, definitely. I'm deficient in vitamins and minerals nobody's even heard of.

Oh, absolutely not. But he did say he could teach me some sewing and a little guitar, and that sounded nice.

Maybe if I tell them they'll look like me if they don't take their vitamins, that'll work.

Hi there. I was just thinking more about the musician thing, and was wondering if you had an audition process or anything like that?

I don't know what he's planning. I was just curious for me.

Something to think about though. Thank you.

I don't know. It's just an era of my life that I thought was gone, so it's weird to just go, "maybe it's not"? If that makes any sense.

The skill's there, but the person is gone.

But point taken.

I've always been a violinist or a fiddler depending on the genre. Fortunately, that's the instrument I still have left (I'm not counting the ukulele I use to entertain kids). I got a scholarship for it, way back when.

Do you play anything? Sing?

[...] Well, I don't mean to brag or anything. I feel like I've probably jinxed myself now.

That's all right. I'm sure what you do have is more useful.

One more reason to attend, I guess.

Your skills must be pretty important if you're in charge, though.

I'm competitive, what can I say?

Arguably one of the most important jobs there is right now. You're singlehandedly keeping morale and socialization afloat for the whole Quad.
